Walter E. Brock, Jr.

Walter E. Brock, Jr. has been with the firm since 1979 and is a member of the firm's Practice Management Committee, a shareholder, and a litigation team leader. His practice involves general civil litigation for individual and corporate plaintiffs and defendants, with special experience and interest in the following areas: catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death, product liability, environmental litigation, professional liability, trade secret, non-compete, and non-solicitation law and litigation, computer litigation, business and commercial litigation, breach of contract and unfair trade practice disputes, professional liability insurance coverage, first party and third party insurance bad faith litigation, and first party and casualty insurance coverage. He tries cases in the Superior Court throughout North Carolina and in each of the three federal district courts, and appears regularly in the Court of Appeals of North Carolina, in the North Carolina Supreme Court, and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He is also admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court.

Walter is a former President of the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates and served as the Eastern North Carolina Chapter representative on the ABOTA National Board of Directors from 1996 through 1999. He was President of the Wake County (Raleigh, North Carolina) Bar Association and Tenth Judicial District Bar Association in 1998 and President Elect in 1997. He was previously the chair of the WCBA Public Service Committee and served on the Board of the Courthouse KidsCenter, Inc. He holds memberships in the Susie M. Sharp Inns of Court, North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, North Carolina Bar Association - Litigation and Environmental Law sections, the ABA Section of Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law, and the American Law Firm Association product liability and environmental law practice groups.

Walter was listed in Best Lawyers in America in 2007 and in North Carolina Super Lawyers in 2006, 2007, and 2008. He has organized seminars, authored articles, lectured, moderated panel discussions and/or given trial demonstrations on civil litigation, civil procedure and evidence, ADR and mediation, products liability, insurance bad faith litigation, insurance coverage, and environmental law. He is a 1975 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with Honors in Economics. He received his law degree from UNC Chapel Hill in 1978 where he served as an Associate Justice of the Holderness Moot Court Bench. He was law clerk for the late Chief Judge Naomi E. Morris of the North Carolina Court of Appeals in 1978-79.

Walter is married to Lynne, a college instructor and doctoral candidate, and has three adult children. He is an active United Methodist and has served as adult and middle school Sunday school teacher, Chair of the Church Council, Chair of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, Capital Campaign chair, Finance Committee member, long range planning member, instrumental musician, and has studied Disciple I and Disciple II. His hobbies include tennis, power boating, water skiing, running, instrumental music and golf.
