William M. Trott
Bill Trott has been with Young Moore and Henderson since concluding a tour of duty in the Navy JAG. He began in general litigation with a specific emphasis on employment law. He has represented clients in a wide range of employment law issues, including discrimination, harassment, workplace privacy, wrongful discharge, wage and hour, retaliation, OSHA, covenants not to compete and employment contracts. These representations have been broad and diverse and have included the formulation of corporate policies to comply with the law; the confidential and successful handling of numerous disputes between employers and employees; supervisor training and seminars on behalf of employers as to compliance issues; advice concerning the provision and need for employment practices liability insurance; the preparation and updating of employee handbooks; drug testing; sports law; handling claims and investigations by administrative agencies; handling lawsuits in state and federal courts; handling arbitrations; technology privacy in the workplace; counseling clients in connection with discharge and discipline; and other related matters.
Mr. Trott also practices in related fields of general business law, and, in particular, he frequently represents insurance companies and organizations on regulatory matters, including hearings and appeals. These matters have concerned property casualty insurance ratemaking; compliance with state and federal laws; licensing; insurance coverage issues and other related matters.
In 2008 Mr. Trott was elected to the Board of Directors of ALFA International, a legal network of 125 law firms throughout the United States and around the world. He has served ALFA International in a number of positions in past years, including on the Labor and Employment Editorial Board and as the firm's Contact Partner to ALFA.
Mr. Trott has been active in civic and community affairs. He was a member for many years and was elected Chairman of the Wake County Parks and Recreation Commission. He was active for many years and served as President of the Capital Area Soccer League. He served on the Steering Committee of Friends of Wake County relating to school and park bond issues. He is listed in Who's Who in America. Mr. Trott is an avid tennis player, having lettered three times in tennis at UNC and having been state doubles champion in several age groups. For a number of years, he has been on the board of the North Carolina Tennis Foundation. He is a member of the Sports Council of the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and is on the board of the Environmental Education Fund.
