Life, Accident & Health, Disability Insurance & Reinsurance

Insurance law is our business.

Young Moore has extensive experience in a wide variety of matters relating to insurance law, including life, A&H, disability and credit insurance and reinsurance. We have assisted in the preparation of policy forms and in filing and obtaining approval of these forms by regulatory authorities throughout the country. We resolve contested claims on a national basis and provide litigation support where necessary in North Carolina and by assisting out-of-state counsel on matters in state and federal courts. We have successfully managed the risks attendant to suits involving large claims for punitive damages. We have negotiated treaties with reinsurers and have handled disputes and litigation concerning reinsurance issues. We have expertise in the representation of third-party administrators providing services relating to both health and workers’ compensation insurance. Additionally, we have assisted in the formation of PPO networks and contracts and utilization review agreements and procedures.

In addition to providing these types of services, we have enhanced our ability to serve our clients by developing expertise in matters relating to COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA and other federal laws. We have experience in litigating disputes involving employee benefit plans in all federal courts in North Carolina and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and we continue to provide third-party administrators with a full range of legal services.

Our governmental affairs lawyers lobby before the North Carolina Legislature on behalf of the property and casualty and health insurance industries, and this permits us to assist insurers with legislative issues and provide them with immediate updates and analyses on legislation affecting various lines of coverage.

We work closely and often with the North Carolina Department of Insurance on a variety of matters ranging from licensing to do business in North Carolina to obtaining approval of policy forms to assisting insurers in getting managed care networks operational. Our lawyers have excellent working relationships with a large number of key members of the Department of Insurance, and this provides a significant benefit to our clients.

Communications are not privileged until the client and lawyer have agreed on legal representation. Please do not send confidential information to us via e-mail or in any other manner without first communicating directly with us about the attorney-client relationship. The transmission of an e-mail request for information does not create an attorney-client relationship. Your initial email should only contain a list of the parties interested in the matter so that we can make sure we have no conflicts before you convey any information about your case.
